Driving Safety Tips

There are several basic driving safety tips that everyone should know and abide by. Driving and safety have to go hand in hand in order for you to drive around without an accident. If you abide by all the road safety tips and rules, use your common sense, be alert and are a responsible driver, you will find that you are going to be a better driver, no matter how old or young you are.

The first place to start with driving safety is to check the condition of your car. Your vehicle should be in good working order. Before you go out on the road, no matter if it is a long drive or just down to the post office, you need to do a car safety check.

Walk around your vehicle. Check the tires to make sure there aren't any flats and that they are inflated properly. It is a good idea to buy a tire pressure gauge and check the tire pressure at least once a week. Each tire set is different, but the exact pressure should be clearly marked on the sidewall, by the tire size.

When you start your car, check to make sure that all your turn signals work, and there are no burned out bulbs. These are extremely important driving safety tips, because if one or more of your signals fail, you will face a big problem on the road. All your lights should also be in proper working order.

You should check the water in your car radiator and also the engine oil especially if you are going on a long journey. If you don't know how to do it, go to the service station and get someone to do it for you.

If you have children, make sure they are in proper safety restraints. Too many accidents occur because people don't do this and they threaten their lives and the lives of their kids.

Here is another one of the driving safety tips you should remember. While on the road, avoid distractions. Avoid using your cell phone, changing the channel on the radio or trying to do other things. If you have to take that phone call, or your children need attention, pull over at a safe location, and then take care of business. Never try to put on your makeup, eat, or look for things while driving. These are some of the major causes of accidents on the road.

When driving, stick to the speed limit. If you want to overtake another vehicle, make sure that the road is clear and you are confident about it. Drive slower if it rains. Ensure a safe distance from the vehicle in front to avoid any mishap

Here is another road and driving safety tips. Make sure there is an emergency kit including a fire extinguisher in your car. The kit should have some kind of signaling device such as road flares, a flashlight and a good jack.

Night driving safety is even more important. Never drive while intoxicated. Do not drive if you are tired. If you feel tired or sleepy, pull over at a rest area or at other safe spot. Don't push yourself and think that you have only a few more miles or hours till you get to your destination. You could fall asleep at the wheel and possibly lose your life and never arrive.
