Beginner Scrapbooking

How do you start scrapbooking? Here are some techniques and ideas for beginner scrapbooking.

Scrapbooking has been around since the fifteenth century. The first scrapbook store was opened in 1981. This hobby became very popular in 2001 where people from all walks of life found the joys of creating scrapbooks or albums where clippings, photos and notes are collected, arranged and pasted for keepsakes.

Though it looks so simple where all you need is a pair of scissors, glue, photographs and a scrapbook, some people find it intimidating to get started. What you need to remember is that it is yours and it's up to you how you want to create it.

Make sure that you check that these products are acid and lignon free to ensure that your photos aren't destroyed over a period of time. If you aren't sure, ask for help and suggestions.

A scrapbook album.

The scrapbook albums come in various sizes, types, colors, themes and brands. You can get them at most crafty supply stores.

Paper.

Just like the album, you can get the papers and coordinating embellishments in a variety of color and patterns. You will use these papers for pasting your photographs and journaling or writing notes to make comments.

Cutting tools.

A pair of scissors is all that you need. But a knife is also convenient to crop your photos. A paper cutter is very handy when it comes to cutting a straight line.

Adhesives.

The most popular form of adhesives that scrap bookers use are glue sticks and double-sided tapes. You might want to use rubber cement or glue dots for certain applications.

Photos.

As a beginner in scrapbooking you can start out with old photos that you've collected over the years. Or you may want to start with photographs taken from your digital camera.

Choose photographs of good quality and pick the ones that show the theme of your album. Digital photographs are the best to use because you can directly print them on the lignin and acid free paper. For instant photos and black and white photos, scan them and then print using the acid free papers.

You don't require any special scrapbooking techniques to create an attractive album. Using your imagination and a few simple and basic methods will do. If you feel that you can't figure out how to organize your photos and create your album, browse the internet and get some ideas on how other people have done it.

The first thing to do is to determine your goal and decide what you want to include in your album. Then learn how to mat photos. What you need to do to mat is simply cutting a square of rectangle that is about half inch longer and wider that your photos. Paste the photo in the center of your mat.

Write a note about the photos on a page describing them or your thoughts and feelings. To further enhance the look, add borders to your pages out of strips of coordinating paper. For easy embellishing, use stickers. Use your creative imagination and decide whether you want to add on all four sides, only the top, sides or bottom.

Once you have started and begin to become good at it, you might want to try digital scrapbooking using some free digital scrapbook software. When using a photo editing software program, you can alter and edit the look of your photos. You can cut and crop, add or change the colors and do a lot more.
