Single and Alone Again

Corrine 42, found herself single and alone again after her marriage of 19 years ended. For the next few months, she would go straight home after work and shut herself away from people. Back home, she would replay her past, figure out what went wrong and what she should have done. Then she would become more angry and bitter toward her ex husband. That lasted until her sister gave her a pep talk after seeing how awful she looked and how disorganized her life has turned out.

When you lose someone due to a breakup, divorce or death, you will go through an emotional turbulence. Feeling sad, guilty, bitter and self pity is common.

Whether it's the first time or your third, you will still mourn the death of your relationship. It may last between six months to three years. It depends on how soon you come to terms or accept that it's over and your response during this grieving period.

"The day you wind up being single through divorce or separation is the day you get to test who you really are. Learning to enjoy being single involves the ability to experience everything through your own essence, instead of living vicariously through a spouse or partner ." - Ernie Zelinski
